چکیده

The isthmic aortic rupture represents the main cause of death in car crash accidents, because of closed chest trauma. Early medical and surgical care and endovascular prosthesis treatment with semi-invasive method can improve short and mid term survival. Nine patients with traumatic isthmic aortic rupture underwent endoprosthesis aortic implantation. All the patients were male, mean age 42.48 +/- 17.66 years. Operations included 5 acute cases and 4 chronic cases (chance diagnosis). In all cases the diagnosis was performed by tomodensitometric exam. Cloth prostheses were used (self-expansible Goretex- or Dacron-stent). Three years after the endoprosthesis implantation, we obtained the complete thrombosis of the false aortic lumen in all patients, both acute and chronic, as well as the levelling of the false aneurysms without complications of any kind.

Endovascular Repair of Traumatic Isthmic Ruptures: Special Concerns

Injury of the aortic isthmus is the second most frequent cause of death in cases of blunt traumatic injury. Conventional open repair is related to significant morbidity and mortality. Thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR) has increasing role in traumatic isthmic rupture, as it avoids the thoracotomy-related morbidity, aortic cross clamping, and cardiopulmonary bypass. Additionally to the ...

AORTIC TRANSECTION AND ITS SURGICAL REPAIR: A CASE REPORT FROM IRAN

Aortic transection is a rare but life-threatening complication of blunt chest trauma. Treatment options include open repair, medical management and most recently, endovascular repair. We report a 33 years old male with a traumatic aortic transection following a car accident. Aortic injury and its pseudo-aneurysm were confirmed by Chest CT scan and TEE in the descending thoracic aorta just belo...

Thoracic aorta emergencies: is the endovascular treatment the new gold standard?

BACKGROUND The endovascular treatment for acute traumatic aorta rupture has been proven to be safe in emergency. Technical aspects concerning the device fixation, the materials' durability, and the patients' selection criteria are still under discussion. We present our clinical experience and the mid-term follow-up. METHODS Between January 2001 and January 2005, twenty-five patients have been...

Endovascular repair of traumatic pseudoaneurysm of the descending thoracic aorta: report of three cases and review of

Abstract Traumatic descending thoracic aorta pseudo aneurysms have been treated traditionally with open surgery in the past, which have had noticeable rates of mortality and morbidity. A safer method of treatment for this disease is made possible with recent progress in endovascular treatment techniques. In this article, we present three cases of Traumatic descending thoracic aorta pseudo aneu...

Endovascular Treatment for Traumatic Aortic Rupture

Traumatic aortic rupture is at the present time considered a life-threatening condition that requires emergent surgical intervention. Conventional surgical repair carries a certain risk of mortality and morbidity. Since the introduction of aortic stent-graft, endovascular repair has gradually become a new alternative surgical approach for treating traumatic aortic rupture. We hereby present the...
